Carlsberg Diamond Idol 2013

Known for its passion for the development of talent and
education, Carlsberg Malaysia launched two of its platforms here in East Malaysia namely
the Carlsberg Diamond Idol, being the third edition of singing competition and the ‘I Love
Chinese Education’ charity concert, the fourth year of fund-raising drive for schools and
associations.

At a press conference held at Firefly Bar and Grill in KK, Carlsberg announced that
Carlsberg Diamond Idol is back. The singing competition is bigger, better and bolder this
year, with RM30,000 worth of prizes and giveaways, including a cash prize of RM10,000
and a performance contract to sing at six charity concerts, awaits the Grand Finale
champion.

Carlsberg Diamond Idol competition this year will cover six areas in Sabah and Sarawak,
where aspiring singers can make their way to the selected outlets in Sandakan and Miri,
and subsequently in Tawau, Sibu, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu for the Area Finals. Top two
finalists from each area will qualify for the Grand Finale that will be held in Kota Kinabalu
in September.

“The Grand Finale Champion of Carlsberg Diamond Idol will be engaged to perform in the ‘I
Love Chinese Education’ Charity Concert 2014 that will be held across 5 to 6 shows in
Sabah and Sarawak. We believe that it will be a money-can’t-buy experience for the
aspiring singer to perform in front of huge live audiences and alongside with other albumrecording Malaysian artistes”, Juliet Yap, Marketing Director, Carlsberg Malaysia shared.
Last year, Kuching songstress Esther Thian was crowned the Champion of Carlsberg
Diamond Idol 2012. It gave her great start to her budding singing career as she is now one
of the top 5 finalists of the Astro Star Quest 2013 competition. Esther encourages the
competition’s participants this year to make the best out of every moment on stage.
“Choose the right song, stay calm and singing with passion are recipes for winning over the
audience and judges!” she commented over a telephone interview

Concurrently, Carlsberg Malaysia’s flagship Chinese community engagement project in
East Malaysia known as the “I Love Chinese Education East Malaysia Charity Concert” was
launched for the fourth consecutive years. To-date, the fund-raising drive has successfully
raised a school-building fund of RM3.7 million.
The charity concerts will visit four schools in Sabah and two schools in Sarawak and aim to
raise approximately RM3 million for the betterment of the schools facilities. Loads of
exciting and entertaining performances have been arranged, featuring well-known artistes,
Lim Tiong Piow and sister duo Summer Grace, singer/songwriter VChuan who will also be
one of the judges of the CDI 2013 Grand Finale, just to name a few.
The brewer recognizes the importance of providing platform to support the local
community and promoting avenue for local talents to shine not only in East Malaysia, but
also in Peninsula Malaysia. The increase focus and investment in the marketing and
community engagement programme in Sabah and Sarawak has boosted the brand equity
of Carlsberg and enhanced the corporate reputation of Carlsberg Malaysia as a caring
corporate citizen.
