Famous Food in Kuching, Sarawak:Laksa! (article published in lomography)

Ask anyone in Kuching or Sarawak which are the famous dishes in Kuching and they will surely tell you Kolo mee, Laksa, Kueh Chap, and many others. But the food I'm focusing today in my post is Laksa which contains rice noodle (bee hoon), prawns, chicken slices, and a special soup that is mouthwatering and a must try when you visit Sarawak! The location is at Choon Choon Cafe around Kuching town area.

Choon Choon Cafe is located along Abell Road, 93100 Kuching, Malaysia.

From the photo you can see the Laksa stall. I recommend you getting the special bowl when ordering to get an extra big portion and prawns! Other famous food and drinks in Kuching include kampua mee, 3 Layer Teh C Peng, meat porridge, and also Cantonese stir fried noodles/kueh tiaw.
My friend and I decided to go to Choon Choon that morning to catch up and chit chat. You can see her in one of my photos below! That place is fully packed and we shared a table with two other ladies. It is common to share tables when the place is packed! Other food and drinks available at Choon Choon includes thick toast with your preferred toppings, cha kueh, kueh (sweet/salty dessert/snack food), fried noodles, rice noodles, rice and etc. Drinks you can order are the 3 Layer Teh C Peng (a type of tea with milk and atap sugar from Melaka.
Let’s talk about Laksa. Laksa consists of rice noodle, prawns, chicken slices, taugeh. and special spicy soup served with sambal paste with lime. I usually squeeze my lime onto the sambal paste and pour everything into my soup. Some people had Laksa without pouring the sambal in but dip the prawns and chicken on the sambal paste to eat.
The food served here. Not all though. Some are also featured above!

You have 2 ways to get to Abell Road, either you pass by this cat using Jalan Padungan or go from Jalan Petanak.
You can get to Choon Choon by car, taxi or by walking if you are staying in hotels nearby. Do visit this shop early in the morning before the Laksa sells out fast! Best time will be before 10a.m. to get the special bowl!
You can also find them at their Facebook page
